Guidelines for Images and Display Ads

Rate Card

The Weekly Real Estate appreciates your efforts to supply us digital files for your weekly ads.
But this convenience can creates some technical problems resulting in lower quality.
Here are some guidelines regarding digital files and ads.

1. When taking pictures with a digital camera,
   set the camera to as high a resolution as the camera will offer.
   The bigger the file, the more information we have to work with.
   Typically, files of 250K or bigger will be adequate for most house photos in your ad.
   Yes, these files will take longer to e-mail; but you can often "background" that process.
   
   
2. Avoid using images off the Internet.
   Internet image files are of a much lower resolution
   (72 DotsPerInch) than files needed for print (240 dpi)
   
   
3. If you use a scanner, remember the goal is to create a file adequate for printing,
   not something that e-mails quickly.
   Ideally, your files should be 250K or larger. (example)
   
   
4. Small files are potential problems; large files are not.
   We can always reduce a file that is bigger than we need,
   but we cannot add resolution or detail if it isn’t there to start with.
   
   
5. Text and photos are due for the Weekly Real Estate by Tuesday, 5:00 PM
   this will assure we can get a proof to you before running of the ad.
   
   
6. Display Ad specifications:
   To improve the readership and quality of the Weekly Real Estate,
   we have implemented the following display specifications:
   1/4 page: 6 photos with text and maximum of 15 line listings.
   Copy for Text: Minimum font size to be used in Portfolio: 7 point type (Preferred- 8 point)
   
   
7. Picture size and dpi: a 1" by 1" picture for Weekly Real Estate is equal to a 3.5 " jpeg;
   Why? ... jpegs are 72dpi and Weekly Real Estate prints at about 250 dpi.
